President Address at Military Dinner

Good evening, on behalf of BFRW Members and their Board, I welcome you and thank you for making our 2025 Biennial Veterans & Military Appreciation Dinner a great success.

When I was a teenager, I watched a West Point documentary discussing how the brightest, bravest and most patriotic young men join the US Military.  I remember thinking how handsome those young men were and how proud I would be if my child attended West Point!

A few years ago, after my husband and I moved to Indian River Colony Club in Brevard, we joined my mother-in-law, Carol, and good friends, General Gene Anderson and his wife Gloria in celebrating their grandson’s, Curtis, appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy. During dinner Gloria, whose sons were both career officers, said “the reality of Curtis’ decision will really hit home when his parents receive all of his personal belongs in the mail in about a month … that’s when they will realize that he doesn’t belong to us anymore, he belongs to the military.”

My eyes teared up.  My children are my life, and I realized that our military members are not just their parents’ children, they are also the children of our country and since they are our family, we must take care of our service members and veterans.

Words cannot express the gratitude and respect I feel for our veterans. “Thank you for your service” seems so hollow.  I ask all Federated Republican Women, all Republicans, to honor the sacrifice and dedication of our military members.  They devoted their lives to preserving our freedom; in return we must devote our lives to assuring that we and our children are worthy of their sacrifice.

April Luncheon

Be An Informed Voter!

BFRW April Luncheon will feature our Federation Sister, author, and advisor Dr. Karen Hiltz, Ed.D.

Education is the key to a bright future for our Nation.  To defend our Nation and combat progressive ideology, Republicans must arm themselves with knowledge!

Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Pavone, Senior Army Instructor at Cocoa High School, will give us a brief introduction to the CHS JROCT program. Its mission is to motivate young people to be better citizens. Their female Color Guard performed “Missing Man” Ceremony at BFRW 2025 Veteran & Military Appreciation Dinner on March 8, 2025.

BFRW 2025 Legislative Focus - One

BFRW Legislative Committee has proposed a 2025 Legislative Focus.

In 2024, Florida Constitutional Amendments 3 & 4 nearly created Constitutional crises for Floridians. As suggested by a Federated sister club, in 2025 we too will focus on "bills that improve the function of government and protect our representative form of government."

The first Bill we will focus on is House Bill HB1205: Initiative Petitions for Constitutional Amendments.

GENERAL BILL by Persons-Mulicka
Initiative Petitions for Constitutional Amendments; Revises provisions relating to initiative petitions including handling petitions; sponsor & petition circulator registration; signature verification procedures; signature revocation; record retention; duties & responsibilities of supervisors, Division of Elections, & Department of State; & criminal penalties.

March Panel Discussion Recap

Panel Discussion Series - Women in the Law

Another full house at BFRW’s March Luncheon, with over 75 great women in attendance!

Our first Panel Discussion, with moderator Appellate Attorney Charles George, and four great lady lawyers, Robyn Hattaway*, Anne McPhee*, Rene Torpy*Timi Tucker*, was very informative. They discussed legal issues ranging from governmental regulation, to wills, trusts and estates, to law enforcement while protecting civil rights, to grandparent rights.

BFRW has and will always work to advance women of all backgrounds in leadership positions by providing a forum in the political, governmental and civic arenas.

Florida State Senate candidates Tim Thomas, Mark Lightner and Debbie MayField’s representative Marisa Khan, and State House Candidate Brian Hodgers, discussed the issues and their campaigns in upcoming special elections. BFRW values all the Republicans who are willing to step and serve at the local, state and national levels.
